Before you fill your SCORKL, check for damage to the cylinder, pressure indicator, and the regulator. Do not use your SCORKL if there are any signs of damage. Then, ensure the regulator is securely screwed into the cylinder. Do not over-tighten it.
Before you submerge with your SCORKL it’s important to test the regulator, purge button and pressure indicator. You should practice using your SCORKL out of water before you dive in.
Breathe normally and continuously through your SCORKL regulator. Never hold your breath.
Replace the SCORKL mouthpiece into your mouth and either exhale sharply into the regulator before inhaling again or place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and depress the purge button briefly before inhaling again.
Take care to always handle your SCORKL carefully. Do not knock it over, throw it into the water or store it in places subject to temperature extremes. Doing so can cause damage to the cylinder, pressure gauge and internal components of the regulator.
There is no need to hold the SCORKL with your hands as you dive. To use, simply bite down lightly on the mouthpiece with your teeth like you would with a snorkel. The SCORKL will naturally position itself under your chin.
To breathe from a free-flowing regulator safely, remove the mouthpiece from inside your mouth and place it lightly against the outside of your lips. Create a splash guard, placing your tongue against the roof of your mouth, breathe carefully.

Step 4 in the video below gives detailed instructions on assembling the rings on the underside of your SCORKL regulator.
Before you jump in with your SCORKL, you should get the cylinder tested and inspected. The SCORKL cylinder is just like a normal SCUBA cylinder, failure to properly care for it can lead to dangerous consequences. Depending on where you’re located,
Store your SCORKL in a clean, dry area in a protective container where it will not be exposed to rough handling or extreme temperatures. Store your SCORKL between 0°C - 30°C (32°F to 90°F).
As soon as possible, submerge the SCORKL completely and soak thoroughly for at least 30 minutes in warm fresh water (not over 49°C (120°F)). Be sure the SCORKL has some pressure in the cylinder to prevent the entrance of moisture into the system.
For general cleaning, use a mild hand-washing dish detergent: 30 millilitres per 4 litres (1 fl oz per gallon) of water. To sanitise, use 30 millilitres of mild bleach (e.g. CloroxTM) per 4 litres (1 fl oz per gal) of water.
Clean and lubricate your pump occasionally. Lubrication should be applied on a small scale onto the pump rod and then pumped a few strokes. Use ONLY food-grade, high pressure environment-appropriate silicon lubricant to lubricate your hand pump.
Store your SCORKL Hand Pump in a clean, cool, dry area in a protective container where parts will not be exposed to rough handling, extreme heat or extreme cold. Storage temperature range should be 0°C - 30°C (32°F to 90°F).
